About the Solution

PCRF Proxy is a solution that implements precision network control based on lists of the operator’s base station LAC and TAC identifiers. Stingray PCRF Proxy is embedded into the break of the Gx interface between PCEF and PCRF as a transparent proxy – with no changes to the existing infrastructure.

The solution enables operators to quickly prioritize mission-critical services – such as banking, taxi services, and messaging apps – in specific geographic areas experiencing high network traffic, including mass events, transportation hubs, and rush hours in densely populated areas.

Precise Network Management

PCRF Proxy enables granular traffic management: it prioritizes mission-critical services while simultaneously limiting “bandwidth-hungry” but lower-priority traffic like background updates. This frees up bandwidth and network resources exactly where they are needed most and improves connection quality for subscribers during peak load periods.

How Does the PCRF Proxy Work?

Retrieving the Zone List

The operator identifies the congested zone and the base station identifiers (LAC, TAC, CID), uploads this information to the PCRF Proxy in a matter of seconds, and enables prioritization mode.

Instant Zone Activation

The zone is activated with a single click. All subscribers within the zone are immediately switched to priority mode for socially critical resources.

Enabling the Prioritization List

Subscribers within the zone receive unrestricted access to a list of resources specified by the operator – for example, socially essential services (banks, government services, emergency services).

Automatic Restoration

When a subscriber leaves the zone or the prioritization rules are deactivated, the system automatically reverts to the standard rate plan without requiring any manual action.

An Intelligent Diameter Bridge is used to eliminate Head-of-Line blocking by converting TCP traffic to multistream SCTP (Multistreaming).

Prioritization is targeted: subscribers outside the affected zone continue to enjoy full-quality service, while those inside congested zones get uninterrupted access to critical services even at peak load.
