DPI/BNG/NAT project implementation for Beeline operator
With the rapid growth of Internet traffic and increased requirements to the quality of service, telecommunication companies are forced to constantly improve their infrastructure. High resolution video, cloud services, online games and other resource-intensive applications require reliable communication channels and minimal latency. In such a situation, network optimization becomes not just desirable, but vital to ensure quality service.
In this context Beeline operator faced the task to significantly increase the efficiency of traffic management and simplify network administration. One of the key solutions in this direction was a complex project on implementation of DPI (Deep Packet Inspection), BNG (Broadband Network Gateway) and NAT (Network Address Translation) for processing traffic over 2 Tbps.
2 Tbps solution
The goal of the project was to create a high-performance platform capable of handling more than 2 Tbps of traffic, which is an enormous amount of data. Realizing such a solution required not only the implementation of state-of-the-art technology, but also detailed planning at all stages.
A throughput of 2 Tbps is a serious performance, especially in the context of high user density and increasing demands on quality of service. To achieve this performance, VAS Experts engineers used a comprehensive approach to network architecture:
- A multi-tiered load balancing system to optimally distribute traffic between servers.
- Optimized routing to minimize data transfer delays.
- Utilization of modern server solutions with high performance for traffic processing and filtering.
DPI: Transparency and control
DPI, or Deep Packet Inspection, is a powerful tool for analyzing and managing Internet traffic. This technology allows the operator to not only identify traffic types, but also manage them. The implementation of DPI from VAS Experts has enabled Beeline to better allocate network resources, provide prioritized access to important services and respond quickly to threats and anomalies.
DPI helps address challenges such as:
- Ensuring a high level of network security through identification of suspicious traffic.
- Optimizing network resource utilization by prioritizing certain types of data.
- Monetization of services through flexible traffic management and offering additional services to customers.
BNG: access control and connection stability
The BNG (Broadband Network Gateway) is a key element of a service provider’s infrastructure that manages users’ connections to the network. BNG is a software solution that performs important routing and access control functions. As part of the project, BNG from VAS Experts provided the following tasks:
- Authentication and authorization of subscribers for secure Internet connections.
- Traffic distribution and quality of service (QoS) management, which is especially important to support stable connectivity under high loads.
- Realization of service provider business model for servicing customers with different types of access L2TP/PPPoE/IPoE.
CG-NAT: solving the problem of IP address shortage
With the development of the Internet and the growing number of connections, the problem of IP-address shortage is becoming more and more important for telecom operators. This is especially noticeable with the gradual exhaustion of the IPv4 address range. In this context, NAT (Network Address Translation) technology plays a key role.
CG-NAT allows an operator to effectively manage a limited number of public IP addresses, distributing them among multiple subscribers and maintaining connection stability. The project realized by VAS Experts for Beeline included implementation of CG-NAT at the operator network level.
It allowed to:
- Optimize the use of available IP addresses.
- Ensure stable and secure connection for each user.
What resulted
VAS Experts together with Beeline effectively realized the project on implementation of DPI, BNG and CG-NAT technologies for 2 Tbps traffic. During the project both current needs of the operator and possible prospects for further network growth were taken into account.
After the project completion Beeline received the infrastructure, which allows to effectively cope with modern challenges of the telecommunication market. Implementation of DPI/BNG/CG-NAT on such a scale ensured not only improvement of service quality, but also increased network flexibility, ensuring readiness for load growth.
